Fabric of The Week 2 – Rainbow Duvet

Fabric of The Week

Week 2 of Fabric of the Week ties closely into one of our main loves – charity shop shopping! This lovely fabric is actually a single duvet and pillow case set that we bought ages ago from a charity shop.

We have used this fabric before – as backing for our character pinboards (check them out in our Folksy shop! https://folksy.com/items/7019621-Covered-Cork-Pinboard-Superhero-Pink-Hair-) but never made the fabric the focus as we wanted to do for this challenge.

We decided to focus on the rainbows and found an amazing quote from the brilliant author Maya Angelou.

We stitched the letters on using two stands of embroidery thread (and one strand for the Maya Angelou because it was so small) We found that stem stitch made the writing too busy and so did a simple (and quick) back stitch for the letters. The coloured letters had the Rainbow song stuck in our heads but that is a worthy price to pay as they look so pretty against the clouds.

We managed to get three bags out of the duvet and the cloud placement meant that each one was slightly different in look.

As we also hate waste we managed to also make a make-up bag and headphone holder from the material.

The fabric was lovely to work with and a much needed burst of colour when the January blues hit!
